FATHER and son duo Michael and Jack Newton have had a run of big barbel from a local stretch of the River Ribble, topped by this 13lb 13oz specimen.
The Preston-based pair were targeting a stretch of the Lancashire river only 500yds from their front door with groundbait feeder tactics and halibut hookbaits, with 13-year-old Jack catching a 12lb 2oz fish a week before dad landed his new pb.
Tree surgeon Michael, who has recently got back into fishing after his son took up the sport, smashed his previous 6lb 8oz best after tempting the lump with a 14mm halibut pellet presented over a small bed of spodded pellets.
“Jack has really been getting into his fishing and I’ve rediscovered my passion for it again,” he said.
