Persistence produces Nidd barbel

CABBIE Andrew Fieldhouse has had to wade through lots of smaller barbel over the years in his quest for this 9lb 8oz River Nidd specimen.
A Marine Halibut boilie legered under the Harrogate cab driver’s rod tip on a river dropping off after a flood proved the winning tactic.
“It’s not hard catching Nidd barbel but you have to go through an awful lot of small ones to catch the bigger fish,” said Andrew.

It's almost here: Used Tackle Show

There are just a few days left until Used Tackle's Massive Discount Fishing Show at the Newark Showground. Over 10,000 anglers are expected to attend, keen to take advantage of sale prices on a vast array of gear from all over the world. Entry is £5 (children under 12s are free), but you can claim a free ticket in this week's Angling Times.
Angling Times would like to point out that this show is nothing to do with the Breakout Tackle Tour, as previously stated in AT.

Scottish loch produces massive pike haul

A massive haul of pike has been caught from a Scottish loch which included three ‘thirties’ and 24 ‘twenties’.
Neilson Baxter, from Alloa near Stirling in Scotland, was targeting a local trout water that he has fished for seven years when he made the historic haul over 10 days of fishing.
The landscape gardener, who prefers to freeline his baits, fished a joey mackerel to tempt his largest predator weighing 37lb.
That incredible fish was followed by another of 35lb 4oz which fell to a dead trout and a third specimen weighing 30lb 4oz which came to a roach livebait.
Neilson is touting the venue as a potential record water because it has already done two ‘forties’ and anglers’ recaptures show the pike are continuing to pile on weight.
