Perseverance on a freezing cold night certainly paid off for Cambridgeshire angling guide Mark Barrett who went on to land this 15lb 8dr zander.
Mark was fishing the Great Ouse with a 3oz livebait to tempt the specimen from close to the bank.
"I fished right down the edge as the river was running off hard. I have found that the zander tend to come in to feed on the small fry taking refuge there. The fish took off with the bait like a scalded cat and fought very well in the flow before coming to the net," explained Mark.
This fish beats Mark's previous zander best of 14lb 2oz.
